Royal Sussex County Hospital Library, 8th July at 11.00am

The library at the Royal Sussex County Hospital was opened in 2005 to accommodate Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS), one of the newest and most popular medical schools in the country, and the resulting influx of medical students to the local area.  Following a unique model, the NHS Library and Knowledge Service (LKS) for Brighton and Sussex manages provision of library resources and services to BSMS students and academics, with LKS staff based in three NHS libraries and on the local university campuses.    In addition, the LKS provides evidence searches, information skills teaching, evidence updates, document supply and a wide range of online resources to local staff from the teaching hospital, community health, mental health and primary care. Embedded librarians bring evidence into the work environment and a public health specialist librarian works alongside commissioners and manages the distribution of thousands of health promotion leaflets to schools, voluntary organisations, community groups and beyond.

The visit will offer a brief tour of the library followed by discussions with our Medical School Librarian and specialist librarians working in clinical and public health environments.
